MASTECH 2008

MASTECH 2008, the biggest ship technology conference in the Middle East organized by MAST (Middle East Alumni of Ship Technology) was inaugurated on 12November 2008 at Hotel Crowne Plaza, Dubai. MASTECH 2008 was a two day International Maritime Technical Conference on Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding. The event is organized by MAST the Middle East Alumni of Ship Technology passed out from the Dept. of Ship Technology, Cochin University of Science & Technology in connection with their 25th anniversary celebrations of MAST.

MAST alumni association has over 150 Naval Architects holding prominent positions in the UAE maritime industry and MASTECH 2008 was supported by Marine BizTV; the world’s first global maritime television channel and supported by BizTV Events; the concepts division of Marine BizTV. The conference had 24 international paper presentations and had confirmed the attendance of over 250 international delegates from the industry. The conference had six sessions on the most relevant topics of the maritime industry such as Maritime Rules & Regulations, Fuels & Lubricants, Offshore Engineering, Shipping, Pleasure Crafts & Outfitting and Maritime Software.

The mega event was inaugurated by Nawal Saigal, Managing Director, Drydocks World, Dubai. The main sponsor of the event was Dubai Drydocks World. Stalwarts of the UAE Maritime Industry also extended their complete support and sponsorship for MASTECH 2008. Albwardy Marine Engineering LLC, Emarat Maritime LLC,Star Marine Services LLC, HICO Middle East Gen Trading LLC, Emirates Trading Agency and Clarksons Technical Services also joined MASTECH as Co-sponsors.

 

MASTECH 2008 paved an excellent opportunity to hear from the leading technical figures of the maritime industry worldwide. The two day event provided an unprecedented opportunity to exchange information, showcase the latest technical innovations and take stock of trends and issues at the heart of future strategies. Another innovative concept introduced for MASTECH 2008 was ’MASTECH Digi Show’, to open way for an advanced business and interaction. The Digi Show showcased the latest technology and trends in the maritime industry and was held in parallel to the conference.

 

Moreover, MASTECH 2008 also received worldwide support and acceptance from various organizations such as RTA, Dubai, SNAME, RINA, UAE Ship owners Association, Dubai Ship Agents Association and RECSO. The event was also celebrated by the media as well. Medias like The Naval Architect, Baird Maritime, Ginsye Publications, Marine & Industrial Report, Marine Log and The Maritime Executive etc. gave a wider publicity for the event. Being the first ever maritime event organized by an alumni association, MASTECH 2008 added more color to the event.
